Abstract

In the early 19th century, it appears at Great Britain a renewal spiritual movement, known as «Brethren of Plymouth», which undergoes a rupture with official Church. They developed a strong missionary conscience, that pushed them unto different countries, Galicia among them. Their concept of calling, their rejection to hierarchy or their complete vital commitment, conditioned their work at our country, as much as the kind of churches they established in here and their social work in Galicia, mainly in education and health grounds. By this time, George Borrow, from British & Foreign Bible Society, spread in this country Bibles in vulgar language. His viewpoint was that Bible by itself was able to open to light the eyes of people
trapped in obscurantism.
