Abstract

The approach to the understanding ofthe demographic, economic and social situation in the municipalities of the province of Ourense (Spain), which share a border with Portugal, is suggested in the present article. It makes reference to the Spanish postwar period (1939-1945) in an impoverished backward region together with the typical problems that the Spanish nation is going through elased here parthy through smuggling and mining. It's based on press data, official accounts and oral interviews.
