El relieve castreno de Formigueiros

Abstract

This paper is about a new interesting stone relief belonging to the Castro culture where a combination of geometrical designs and a figurative scene with five horses and a rider can be observed. This is an iconographic theme that opens a series of questions about the simbology of the the horse and the equestrian elites and their relation with a special construction, probably placed in Monte do Castelo (Formigueiros, Amoeiro, Ourense). Sorne other already knows reliefs from the same area related to the field of the castro architectural sculpture are also mentioned.
