La alameda de Vigo en el siglo XIX

Abstract

In the present essay we analyse the process of creation of the first urban park
in the city of Vigo, in Galicia (Spain). This park was born over a promenade existing previously in the same place since 1828, made on the beach, outside the city walls. The park, called Alameda, was designed by the academic architect Domingo Rodríguez Sesmero in 1882, when he worked as the official architect for the town council. We also bring forward a sinthetic view over the work of this architect in his service to the town during the last years of the nineteenth century.
