This work seeks to study and explain the British actions, both official and private, upon the Portuguese Brazil and the Río de la Plata, since the removal of the Portuguese Court to Brazilian territory and the change of alliances caused by the Napoleonical invasion to Spain. Under the light of these international, regional and local processes (which are significant antecedents to the failed English Invasions to Buenos Aires and Montevideo), we examine British behaviour in both places, taking into account politicaladministrative, economical and even navigation-related aspects. As a result of this comparative study, we will be able to appreciate the consequences of the English presence in the region, and its influence on the maritime and commercial movement, during the transition from the Colony to the Revolutionary period.
