Abstract

At the beginning of the 80’s the organization of the production at global scale enters into a new phase called post-fordism stage. One of its features is the flexibility in the work organization. That involves creating a flexible labour and it leads to the fragmentation of the production process in the space. It is precisely at this point where territories that were not traditionally industrialized participate, since they had a fundamental resort: plentiful labour. Rural Galicia corresponds to this type of territory. In fact, the big expansion of the dressmaking sector would not be understandable without the contribution of rural women and their “flexible work”. One of the links of this production line is based on the work performed by rural women in the dressmaking cooperatives which were so important in Galicia and on which this article will be centered.
