Abstract

In the last decades, studies on women have found their way into the historiography devoted to the modern Galician period, with a certain delay with regard to other territories; this is due, partly, to the influence of currents such as Marxism and the Annales, slightly partial to gender history and, partly, to women’s shortage in centers of research. But, in return, Galicia had a distinct advantage: a goodknowledge of demographic behavior and economic and social structures, obtained from a territorial and quantitative research, which enabled us to get a very precise image of women and their role in biological reproduction and economic and social development. At present, the social field is mainly studied, as well as the role of women out of the domestic area.
