Abstract

This paper deals with the study of A Coruña from different points of view in a particular time period, the change of the nineteenth to the twentieth centuries. The choice of this moment in time as a sample is due to the reason that A Coruña goes from being a traditional city with little social and commercial dynamics to a fast growing dynamic city, the seeds of the current trading capital of the Northwest. The city suffers a series of transformations in its plan, the physical, social and institutional. All these changes are considered in the time period between 1890 and 1910, from a previous reference urban plan (1884) and a final reference plan (1912), proceeding to a study by urban sectors in transformation.
