Abstract

This paper discusses the mechanisms of interaction between Greeks and natives in the western Mediterranean. The three basic models which have followed the Greeks during the installation process are analyzed; in the second place the strategies carried out by the Greeks to justify their appropriation of territories previously occupied by local populations are also addressed. The last part of the article deals with various forms of resistance to the Greek action and ends with some reflections on the cultural exchanges that have taken place in colonial contexts.
