Abstract

The article analyzes the evolution of the naval activity in Galicia during the modern age, a period divided in four big stages. In each of them there are studied the naval events that concern to the region, the politics applied by the crown in this area and the available means, with special attention to the existence of Galician navies. The presence of the royal navies in the kingdom, the intervention of the local elites in the management of the naval companies and his problems are the principal aspects treated in every period
