Abstract

With a chronological exhibition it is performed an overview of the technical aspects most characteristic of Spain’s historical road networks, emphasizing their importance in the territorial coordination by channeling internal and external communications with comfort and speed, the transmission of culture, settlement, trade and the promotion of the economy and national wealth. It covers structural characteristics and design criteria of various routes and historic roads of Spain, from the arrival of Rome to the present, and its stone masonry bridges built until the early twentieth century, and other modern materials such as steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete since the mid-nineteenth century to today
