Reception of Quixote in Naples, library inventory, Giovanni Camillo Cacace, Giulio Cesare Capaccio, 7th Count of Lemos, 3rd Duke of OsunaAbstract
All the data referring to the circulation of Quixote on the very hispanised peninsula constituting the Kingdom of Naples during the 15th century are a precious testimony of its reception. This has been documented through notarial acts, particularly those concerning inventory of goods, and comments regarding the political-literary context. This study is based on an inventory preserved in Archivio di Stato di Napoli, which displays a copy of Quixote on the library of the judge Camillo Cacace. This work briefly explains the collection of Spanish books he owned. It also links the reception of this work to other documents, which illustrates the critical reception of Quixote in the Spanish Naples.
