Traducción y didactismo en el siglo diecinueve: "Mañana" y "Un acreedor" de Maria Edgeworth.

Abstract

Maria Edgeworth (1768-1848) was an Anglo-Irish authoress whose works became popular and extensively translated on the continent during the beginning of the nineteenth century. Her texts arrived in Spain many years later conditioned by the writer´s success in France. This paper is inscribed in a major project and presents a translemic analysis of the Spanish version of two tales by Edgeworth. These stories were characterised by their didactic tone and could perfectly have suited the taste of the young female readers. After a contextualisation of the writer and her age, I will examine the translations taking into account Itamar Even-Zohar‘s and Gerard Genette‘s concepts of the literary polysystem and the paratext to insist on the manipulation of the source texts and the interference of French culture.
