Based on the findings of translation process research, some teachers have adopted a strategy of introducing translation commentaries in translation classes, with a view to improving the quality of translation produced by their students. The present translation commentary model aims to encourage students to reflect on their performance during the translation process, by using a wide range of variables to describe the difficulties encountered while translating. In order to make the structure of their commentaries more accessible, these parameters are regrouped into basic categories, which show an interdependent relation. Similarly, the model offers teachers an insight into students’ mental processes and how they transform information.
