Abstract

Spanish and English are two of the three languages with the most speakers in the world. They have been in contact for many years but, at the beginning of the 21st century, this contact seems to have drawn the attention of linguists, politicians, mass media and the layman. Is spanglish a new language? Does it have its territory and its native speakers? What is spanglish exactly? How long has this phenomenon been going on? This article will try to answer some of these questions.
