Peer Review

Evaluation process flowchart:

Description of the submission evaluation process and (approximate) timeline.

1.  Calls for Papers for articles and reviews open in early January. Usual deadlines for submissions:  15 March  or 31 March.

2. The editorial team reviews submissions for compliance with the journal's scope, publication guidelines, and academic standards. If these criteria are not met, the paper is rejected (March - April).

Following peliminary editorial review:

3. Reviews: These submissions are reviewed by the section editor, who may request modifications and corrections from the author.

4. Articles: These submissions are forwarded to the person in charge of each section, who will then forward them to two experts in the article's subject matter to issue separate reports on the manuscript. This process is always "double-blind," which implies anonymity in both directions (of authorship and reviewer), and the section editors will always ensure that there are no indications of academic or institutional ties between authors and reviewers. (April - May)

5. The reviewers will recommend (or not) the article for publication, and will suggest any revisions or modifications they consider appropriate. This process can take between one and two months after initial contact with the reviewers. (May - June - July)

6. If both reports are favorable, authors will be sent reports with specific recommendations from the section editor and a deadline for submitting the revised work. (May - June - July)

7. If two unfavorable reports are received, the submission will not be accepted. Authors will be notified of the decision, and the anonymous reviewers' reports will be forwarded to them. (May - June - July)

8. If the two reports do not agree in their assessment (one being favorable and one unfavorable), a third report will be requested from another reviewer, which could extend the review process until September.

9. For accepted manuscripts, the editorial team may make style corrections or request specific revisions and corrections from the authors during the final editing period of the issue (October-November).

10. The final issue of BABEL-AFIAL will be published in December through the University of Vigo Publishing Service online repository, accessible at https://revistas.uvigo.es
