Abstract

Since the 1970s, feminist criticism has been concerned about the kind of female models that appear in children's literature; thus, critics have established some key criteria: how many women appear, which roles they play... These parameters are usually applied to texts written after 1970; elements of modernity are thought to be completely new and different at the turn of the 20% century where female roles are considered bad models. By contrast, in this article | try to prove that certain features of modernity appeared in children's texts of the Spanish Silver age, as many authors were pioneers in the introduction of Modernism in Spain. To prove it, | will analyze tales by Rosario de Acuña, Sofía Casanova, Magda Donato, Manuel Abril and Carmen Conde by taking into account the criteria established by the 80s and 90s feminist criticism.
