This work presents a brief tour through Italian children's literature between the last decades of the 19' century and the first half of the 20' century. It shows the notion of "childhood" exposed in some literary pieces from the Unification of Italy to the second postwar, along with some of the historical events that influenced the proposals of the authors cited, such as the imposition of a single dialect throughout the country or educational projects defined by prevailing ideologies.
