Abstract

After presenting the literary production of Agustín Fernández Paz as a macrotext based on the
recurrence of certain issues, narratological elements, ideological aspects, etc., this study focuses on
discussing the genres and themes of his narrative aimed at children and young people. Fernández’s
generic proposals, which are defined by a marked eclecticism, are structured and analyzed from four
perspectives: fantastic-realistic, realistic, fantastic and other modalities; whereas his themes, also
characterized by their constant intersections, are reviewed from psychological, social and ideological,
and binomial reality-imagination approaches. The review of this teacher and writer’s work from this
double perspective undoubtedly proves a renewal in his narrations as he includes themes and structures
that had already been tested, as well as his ability to add elements or textual layouts lacking in
Galician children’s and young adult literature.
