Abstract

The aim of this work is to analyse the adaptations for children and young people of Lazarillo de Tormes which were carried out from the 1980s onwards in the cultural field of the Basque language. These adaptations were created with didactic aims (transmission of classics) as well as for increasing the Basque cultural capital (corpora in Basque). Having compared the adaptations and based on the latest approaches to censorship, ideology and the didactic-moral function of cultural products, the convergences and divergences between the decisions taken by the authors in each of the versions are made visible here. By focusing on the end of the story, the dialogue between original and adaptations is brought out, as well as the relationship between the latter in terms of respecting or forcing the implicitly agreed limits of what is appropriate for children and young people.
