This article introduces an educational proposal based on three picture books about death. The readings and complementary activities around Duck, Death and the Tulip by Wolf Erlburg, Jack e a Morte by Tim Bowle and Una casa para el abuelo by Grassa Toro will introduce eight years old children in a process of familiarization and gradual acceptation of death through three phases: Identification, characterization and consequences of death. The preventive approach of this proposal applies a methodology that combines activities of individual reflection with collaborative exercises in order to increase children self-knowledge and encourage the communication and management of emotions and feelings coming from the loss of a loving one. Confidence, respect and empathy become the key elements to comprehend and accept death.
