Abstract

This study analyses seven rewritings in children’s book-objects of the classic tale The Three Bears, editions which were translated into Portuguese and chronologically dispersed. Originally entitled The Three Bears (or Goldilocks and the Three Bears), it is a narrative first published in 1837 by the English poet Robert Southey (1774-1843). We will proceed to a textual analysis, focusing on both the verbal text and illustrations and on its graphic component discussing its material dimension, which is also understood as a co-constructor of the discourse. Our aim is to highlight how the physical support of these artifacts contains interactive and visually exciting properties for the child reader, which motivates him/her to build an emotional relationship or of closeness with the book from an early age, as well as to get acquainted with timeless short stories.
