Which are the links between folktale and contemporary children’s theatre? Based on an analysis of the children’s programmes in Spain since 2006, complemented with the information provided by the theatre companies themselves, we aim to study how folktales are used as raw material for plays.
The authors’ different views on the story go from the rescue of folklore to rewriting for educational purposes. This article offers a complete list of Spanish children’s theatre plays of the last fifteen years that are based on folktales from diverse origins, and it studies by means of concrete examples, the
recycling and adaptation strategies carried out by companies.
