The presence of numerous adaptations of the great classics of Spanish literature in children’s and young people’s section of libraries and bookstores in Spain is striking. The widespread conviction that humanistic education should be based on the reading of the classics seems to justify the need to facilitate reading for those who cannot read them in their original version. Our work will focus on the picture books starring the Cid, Don Quixote, Lazarillo and Platero published for early readers: after analyzing the editorial project that supports such publications, it will be analysed how these adaptations make the classics known to the youngest readers.
