Abstract

Sustainability in higher education has become a prominent global issue. This study examines how Argentina, Spain, and Peru address this topic. Utilizing the participation of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in The Impact Ranking (THE-IR) as an indicator of commitment, the behaviors and performances of different HEIs are scrutinized. The objective is to compare the commitment to sustainability among these three countries. The significance of THE-IR lies in its comprehensive evaluation of HEIs' commitment to sustainability, enabling international comparisons.

Quantitative methodology allows for the identification of similarities, differences, and best practices in terms of sustainability. Commitment to sustainability is evaluated based on participation in THE-IR. The analysis reveals heterogeneity in commitment among countries, influenced by historical, political, and cultural factors. The implication of this study lies in the need for regulatory frameworks to promote sustainability policies and strategies in university systems. This study enriches the global dialogue on sustainability in higher education, emphasizing the importance of considering national and regional contexts in the development of sustainability policies and strategies in HEIs.
