Abstract

This research aims at studying the linguistic ideologies of the upper class in Catalonia in order to know the dispositions that the social groups settled in the prestige values mobilize with respect to the minorized languages and the influence that these ideologies can have in the lower social classes. To access the ideological level, we have chosen semi-structured interviews as a research tool. The data provided reveals the linguistic ideologies on Catalan’s capacity to generate understanding between speakers of Catalan and Spanish, and about Catalan as the language of integration in the Catalonian society.
