Abstract

Despite the centrality that space has recently acquired in cultural studies, we still do not have a clear idea of ??the linguistic procedures involved in spatial representation. In fact, in the literature on descriptive texts, the resources involved in the description of space are not singled out, and identifying characteristics other than static scenes is unusual. In order to providing tools for a systematic and contrastive analysis of descriptive sequences on space, this paper identifies the linguistic resources involved in the description of the territory. In addition, it provides a list of features for defining and establishing contrasts between descriptive sequences in different discursive genres. This research is based on a short corpus made up of court judgments on land demarcation, on the one hand, and, on the other, online advertisements for plots of land for sale.
