Abstract

Hereby Clarin’s short novel Doña Berta is subjected to a detailed analysis, which taking account of the novel’s simplicity and systematism (elements enabled Ricardo Gullón to characterize Clarin’s novels) allows to relate the work’s structured dimension with its intentional place, where the havocs played by the two forms of inmobilist society (Carlism and Capitalism) are denounced.
