El "romance" como concepto crítico-literario

Abstract

This paper attempts to naturalize, if not the term, at lest the concept of romance, by making it useful and operative in the hispanic context through its analysis and clarification. To do so, in the first place, it defines the concept by using the most interesting definitions of it, basically the one offered by Norhtrop Frye. In the second place, it illustrates this definition by examining three of the most important romance varieties. And, in the third place, it draws some distinctions within the concept itself—between the romance mode and the romance genre—as well as without it—between romance and realism.
