Abstract

In this essay I tried to study the cultural references within the poetry works of the contemporary spanish writer Benjamín Prado (Madrid, 1961), and to explain the differences between a poem containing cultural references and a 'culturalist' poem.

On one hand I analyzed how the cultural references appear and what stylistic functions those references have within the surface of a poem.

And on the other hand, I analyzed the deep structure or how a cultural reference might shape the topic and the subjects of a poem. That is how I tried to stablish the textual typology and main
features of a 'culturalist' poem.
