Abstract

Alfonso X, known as ‘The Learned’ (1221-1284), highly contributed to the development of modern Spanish. His works dealt mainly with astrology and geology. However, being his knowledge mostly descriptive, his works achieved in speeding up the process of formation and coin of new words. This work mainly focuses on Alfonso’s Lapidario where the attempt of making Spanish an independent language from Latin and Arabic even in exact sciences becomes striking
