Abstract

Manuel Jorreto Paniagua is one of the many forgotten Spanish writers of the XIX century. His book called Cuentos fantástico-morales contains one of the first collections of children’s tales. In fact, the texts and the pictures of this book were conceived for young readers. Fantasy, as expected at that time, was subordinated to the prevailing norms of society and, for that reason, all stories incorporate an educational component.
