Abstract

The Tratado of Juan Esquerdo is one of several chronicle stories about the double royal weddings that took place in Valencia in 1599 which were written at that moment. One can get acquainted to the pageantry surrounding the ceremony and to the different lists of events. thanks to the very detailed descriptions about the wedding attendees and their clothing, impresses and titles, the events taking place with the passage of the monarchs and the decoration of the city with temporary architectural elements. This article aspires to perform an initial evaluation of the work, contemplating the problems, the hypotheses which may appear and the objectives intended with this study and edition of the text.
