The Etymological Treatment of Japanese Loanwords in Current Spanish Dictionaries

Abstract

Given that some Japanesisms are deficient in etymological information in important Spanish dictionaries, the etymological descriptors of Japanese loanwords in five Spanish dictionaries (DRAE 2001, DUEAE, DUE, DClave and DRAE 2014) we analysed to check whether they had been defined with quality and philological rigour. The results showed that the etymological analysis of Japanase loanwords still needs considerable improvement.
