Abstract

The present paper is the result of my own reflections on the contributions of different people to the field of language teaching and my own experience in a Spanish Secondary School implementing an autonomous learning scheme based on the use of Project Work and learner training as the main classroom  ctivities, although in this article I concentrate exclusively on Project Work. Project Work as defined in this article is the development of a rich, creative experience centred on the learner and his/her surroundings. The experience can be simple or complex but it is based on the interests of the learner. The article advocates the use of this technique in the classroom and attempts to analyse its main characteristics with reference to some methodological aspects. It is maintained that with the use of Project Work the different learning styles and language levels in the group are catered for. It also makes it possible for the teacher to find a balance between accuracy and fluency, allowing, at the same time, for a considerable degree of learner autonomy.
