Early Modern English medical recipe manuscripts have been the object of many studies in the last years. This article presents one of them, the GUL MS Gen 831. This study offers a description of the book from the codicological point of view, that is, it explores its content, dimensions, how pages are preserved, and its binding. On the other hand, the manuscript is viewed from a paleographic perspective, analyzing in detail punctuation, font, errors and amendments exhibited in the text. To own this kind of books in this period was a sign of literacy.
