ANOTACIÓNS SOBRE O MODERNISM

Abstract

This paper contributes to the present discussion by introducing what in English-speaking countries is known as modernism, and by showing some of the differences between it and Hispanic modernismo. This is done by means of five different points: the irreconcilableness of modernism and modernismo; modernism’s reaction to its historical era; the divergence between modernism and the avant-gardes; the complex attitude of modernism towards mass culture; and, finally, the contrast between the most canonical constructions of modernism and other, revisionist possibilities.
