This article analyses the different discursive strategies that they are followed in academic language in order to provide objectivity to the discourse, which allows authors to detach themselves from their own text through the use of impersonal structures. To facilitate this analysis, a corpus that includes academic articles in English and in Spanish was compiled to perform a comparative study using the UAM Corpus Tool. After having established the variables under study which were related to the use of impersonal patterns in academic language, the texts were independently marked according to these layers so that possible parallelism between the two languages could be examined. The conclusion reached from this project indicates that the two hypotheses, which suggested that there would be a higher presence of impersonal phrases and variants in Spanish than in English, seem to be fulfilled in this particular case.
