This paper deals with an intervention program for the development of the ideal language teacher self of six L2 teacher trainees in order to make available for them an ideal vision of themselves which can provide motivation for teaching the foreign language. The ideal language teacher self is the mental representation of what the L2 teacher would like to become. As the main tool for the work of their development, the writing and sharing of narratives was used. The intervention program consisted of carrying out activities based on writing narratives where the participants developed individually an ideal language teacher self, and in five sessions where they shared their narratives with each other and reflected together about them. A qualitative methodology was used to register and analyze the data. The main conclusion is that an intervention program of this nature can be very useful for orienting the teacher trainees regarding the next steps in their professional development, as well as for helping them to acquire greater knowledge of themselves as far as who they were, who they are and, above all, who they want to be in relation to the L2 teaching, which can represent an important source of motivation.
