Abstract

Is the translator/interpreter profession compatible with principles of social and solidarity economy? Certainly, you have sometimes been tempted by stopping working with a customer because you consider his/her professional practices do not match your values or because they directly breach most basic rights. Even if we decide it would be too complicated or unfeasible to change the kind of customers we work with, as professionals we are free to choose our service/product providers. And here we do have many options so that our consumption (both professional and personal) has a more positive social and environmental impact. Alternatives such as banking on values, consumer cooperatives or ethical insurances are presented in this article, so that one can move from a solitary profession to a solidary one.
