The construction of the concept and meaning of Social and Solidarity Economy in Latin America is a space under construction, allowing for the existence of
several interpretations. The article explores the two main alternatives (maximalist and minimalist concept) and, based on these descriptions, analyzes four central themes in the research agenda: the role of the market in the Social and Solidarity Economy; the relationship between systemic solidarity and proximity solidarity; build cooperation and trust; and gender equity. The research method is the hypothetical deductive with the use of bibliographic review.
