Abstract

This study highlights, through a statistical review, the role that women play in the Portuguese Cooperative Sector in three main dimensions: the cooperative woman, the woman in management and the woman as a worker. These data revealed that in terms of cooperative participation, remuneration issues and, above all, female representation in top management positions, there are still inequalities between men and women in the cooperative sector. However, it is undeniable the contribution that this Sector has for the inclusion of women in the labour market and even for female participation in decision-making, which proves to be superior to the one observed in the rest of the Economy.
