Abstract

In this article, we explore the impact of local currencies as a form of social innovation, highlighting their ability to revitalize local economies and strengthen community bonds. Our study focuses on the MOR currency from Montemor-o-Novo, analysing its characteristics and benefits for the community. The research adopts a qualitative approach, using document analysis and semi-structured interviews to understand how the currency promotes or hinders social transformation. Findings suggest that this local currency can raise awareness of sustainable consumption and contribute to local development. We also conclude that the true impact of the MOR local currency will be assessed in the long term, with potential for replication in other communities.
