De Rosalía de Castro a Ruth Matilda Anderson. Feminismo e paratradución

Abstract

In 1939 The Hispanic Society of America published the book by Ruth Matilda Anderson Gallegan Provinces of Spain. Pontevedra and La Coruña, containing the greatest number of translations into English from texts by Rosalía de Castro before 1964. None of the catalogues and registers listing Rosalian texts in other languages specifically records these translations by Anderson. Therefore, this would be the first time, as far as we know, that these six writings by Rosalía and translated into English are detailed. Since they are paratextual elements, according to Genette’s terminology (1987), they must be tackled as translations (Garrido 2003-2004), whose analysis levels – empirical, sociological, and discursive – are approached here from a feminist perspective, already present in both the author (Rosalía de Castro), within the source system, as well as in the translator (Ruth Matilda Anderson), within the
target system.
