A NEW COOPERATIVES ACT IN CATALONIA

Abstract

The Cooperatives Act 12/2015, of July 9, is the third one dedicated to the regulation of these social economy companies in Catalonia, one of the seventeen Autonomous Governments of Spain. This new regulatory framework incorporates
interesting contributions to their legal status, and its development tries to answer five basic objectives: 1) To promote the creation of new cooperatives and consolidation of existing ones; 2) Simplify and eliminate administrative burdens;
3) Strengthen cooperative funding sources; 4) Improve the business management of cooperatives and 5) To achieve greater dimensioning of cooperatives.
